Film holdback talks near conclusion as sides clash over period
South Korea\'s government and the film industry are expected to wrap up discussions on movie holdbacks this month and sign a voluntary agreement. The joint public-private body has been discussing distribution reforms and coexistence measures among cinemas, OTT and other platforms. Separately, lawmakers are considering legislation to mandate a six-month holdback after theatrical runs. Consumer groups oppose a uniform period and say their views are not represented in the talks.

The Korea Financial Investment Association sent guidance to brokerages at the request of the Financial Supervisory Service, warning services could be limited if they violate the principle or amount to outsourcing. Deal structures, platform links and customer data use remain key areas without clear detailed criteria.
