France calls for DeFi connection platforms to be held accountable for security lapses

France has called for crypto platforms that connect customers to DeFi protocols to be held accountable for incidents if they actively facilitate access, in proposals submitted as part of a review of the EU’s MiCA rules. The authorities proposed mandatory checks before linking to DeFi and ongoing monitoring for suspicious activity, and backed protocol and smart contract certification. They also renewed calls to shift CASP supervision to ESMA and to adjust thresholds for major operators.

Cardano Foundation says EU should apply existing financial laws to DeFi and staking

The Cardano Foundation opposed a separate European Union regulatory approach targeting decentralised finance and staking. In a submission to the European Commission, it argued that existing financial laws should be applied based on the function and risks of activities, rather than the underlying technology. It said regulators should distinguish direct participation in decentralised networks from intermediary financial services that hold or control users’ assets, and warned that overlapping rules and differing national interpretations could increase uncertainty for crypto firms.

EU EV shift could create up to 344,000 jobs by 2030, study shows

The European Union could create up to 344,000 additional jobs by 2030 if it accelerates the shift of corporate vehicles to electric models and concentrates financial support on vehicles made in Europe, a study showed. Even under a moderate scenario, the study estimated about 196,000 extra jobs. Under a stronger scenario, added economic value and related investment would rise, with Germany and Poland expected to gain the most.
