U.S. to provide $500 million to SandboxAQ for semiconductor materials development
The U.S. government plans to invest $500 million in SandboxAQ, a U.S. AI and quantum technology company spun off from Alphabet, and take a minority stake. The funding is to develop chemicals and materials for U.S. semiconductor plants, including PFAS alternatives, performance-enhancing materials and catalysts to speed chemical reactions in chipmaking. The work also includes reducing or replacing rare earths used in permanent magnets and batteries in manufacturing equipment.
