EU pushes online protection law for minors beyond social media to games and AI
The European Union is pushing plans to ban social media use for children under 13 and expand online child-protection rules to cover online games and AI chatbots. The European Commission is expected to present an “EU Kids Act” setting age-based limits and safety duties for service providers. Ursula von der Leyen outlined restrictions for 13 to 14-year-olds and separate safety design standards for users under 18, though the final bill is not yet settled.
