Mobile carriers run special communications system for Chuseok holiday traffic surge

South Korea’s three mobile carriers are activating special communications measures ahead of the Chuseok holiday, when traffic is expected to surge. They are checking base station quality at major transport hubs and tourist sites in advance and will use AI-based control and 24-hour monitoring to respond to possible outages. SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus also plan capacity upgrades, stronger security monitoring and early payments to partner companies.

SK Broadband\'s B tv A.dot hits 1.7 million MAU; 55 percent pick content via AI recommendations

SK Broadband said its generative AI media service B tv A.dot has reached 1.7 million monthly active users. The company said 55 percent of customers who searched for content using AI went on to select content. Monthly conversations have topped 21 million since its September 2024 launch. Users who stayed on the service for five straight months showed higher usage days, dialogue volume and VOD viewing time than non-users.

The U.S. Federal Reserve raised its benchmark interest rate by 0.25 percentage point, the first hike since 2023, lifting the target range for the federal funds rate to 3.75 to 4.00 percent. The move largely matched expectations and won unanimous support from all 12 FOMC members. Crypto markets fell about 2.18 percent on the day. Bitcoin briefly rose near $75,900 before slipping back toward $75,100, while holding a closely watched support zone.
