Amazon unveiled five new Alexa-based smart home devices, including the 16-inch Echo Show 16. Amazon reshuffled its Alexa lineup as it broadened its range from speakers to smart clocks, photo frames and smart displays.

According to IT outlet 9to5Mac on Oct. 28 local time, the centrepiece of the announcement is the Echo Show 16 with a bigger screen. Based on the Echo Show 15, it uses a 16-inch display with a 10 percent larger viewing area, and the device is thinner. It also adds a NanoMatte option to reduce reflections. It offers two placement options. Users can place it on a countertop with an iMac-style stand, and it also supports wall mounting.

The Echo Show 16 starts at $499.99. With the NanoMatte screen, it costs $569.99. Amazon started pre-orders on the day, but did not confirm an exact launch date. The company only guided that shipping would be in the second half of this year.

Its speaker lineup also changed. The new Echo Dot includes a home hub function, on-device artificial intelligence (AI) features and a Wi-Fi extender function. The Echo Dot costs $99.99. A kids model costs $109.99 and includes a one-year Amazon Kids+ subscription.

The Echo Studio expanded to a new model that adds a camera. The new model has an indoor spatial awareness function similar to HomePod, and includes a home camera that can check the home in real time. It also supports Alexa-based visual recognition. The existing Echo Studio without a camera costs $219.99, while the new model with a camera costs $249.99.

For bedroom use, it added the Echo Time. It is designed so the screen gradually brightens as the alarm time approaches, making it look like a sunrise. It also includes a sleep sensor, allowing users to choose a feature that wakes them when they are in a light sleep stage. The standard model costs $199.99, while the kids model costs $10 more and includes a one-year Amazon Kids+ subscription.

Amazon also released the Alexa Photo Frame, which focuses on photo display functions. It links with Amazon Photos to show newly taken photos immediately. Users can ask Alexa to find and display specific photos. The price is $199.99 for the black model and $229 for birch or walnut finish models.

The new products are characterised by strengthening the role as an in-home hub beyond simple voice speakers. Echo Dot includes a home hub and on-device AI features, and Echo Studio expanded with a real-time home camera and visual recognition. Echo Show 16 targets demand for living room or kitchen displays with a bigger screen and installation options.

Launch timing also varies by product. Echo Dot, Echo Studio Home Camera, Echo Time and Alexa Photo Frame all went on sale from the day. Echo Show 16, by contrast, is only taking pre-orders. As Amazon has only said shipping will be in the second half of this year, when supplies will actually arrive remains a point to watch.
