Danal joins global Open USD stablecoin ecosystem

Danal is joining the global Open Standard ecosystem and will build payment and settlement infrastructure using the dollar-based stablecoin Open USD (OUSD). The company said on Aug. 21 it is the first domestic payment gateway provider to participate in the ecosystem and has joined as an OUSD participant. Danal plans to gradually add OUSD-based payment and settlement functions to its merchant network and payment infrastructure and expand into cross-border payments and digital-asset settlement.

Household loan cap raised to 3 percent; scraping to be phased down

South Korea’s financial authorities loosened parts of their household loan management stance by raising this year’s lending growth target to 3 percent from 1.5 percent and planning 47.8 trillion won-plus in housing supply finance support. The move is expected to expand banks’ annual capacity for household loans to around 60 trillion won. Authorities also agreed not to block scraping all at once, opting to phase it down while preparing alternatives such as public MyData.

Danal posts 115.4 billion won first-half revenue, eyes global payments and stablecoin expansion

Danal said in a filing on Thursday it posted first-half revenue of 115.4 billion won and operating profit of 3.0 billion won on a consolidated basis. On a separate basis, it reported revenue of 92.8 billion won and operating profit of 6.9 billion won. The company expanded its payments business, increased transactions in retail, culture and leisure, and continued investment in new businesses including stablecoins and a foreigner payment platform.
