Danal posts 115.4 billion won first-half revenue, eyes global payments and stablecoin expansion

Danal said in a regulatory filing on Thursday it recorded first-half revenue of 115.4 billion won and operating profit of 3.0 billion won on a consolidated financial statement basis. On a separate basis, revenue was 92.8 billion won and operating profit was 6.9 billion won.

The company said it expanded its payments business around large merchants in the first half and transactions increased in retail, culture and leisure. It also continued investment in new businesses including stablecoins and a foreigner payment platform. The net loss reflected valuation impacts on its held assets stemming from volatility in global financial markets.

In its global payments business, it is expanding operations that connect Samsung Wallet, WeChat Pay and PayPal with services at home and abroad.

It also expanded the foreigner payments segment. First-half transaction value for WeChat Pay offline QR payments, partnered with Tencent, hit a record high.

In the stablecoin and Web3 segment, it is pushing ahead with a LINE NEXT and JPYC payment collaboration following Circle's USDC onboarding and a Binance Pay Korea contract. It is also conducting technical verification for Binance Pay offline QR payments and plans to prepare services for financial companies and global firms in line with related legislation.

Among its affiliates, Danal Entertainment returned to profit in the first half, influenced by its content exhibition business and other factors. PayProtocol unveiled its on-chain infrastructure "PayChain," and Bit Corporation opened its first store in Japan.

A Danal official said, "During the first half, we preemptively responded to structural changes in the global payments market and created various results from new services under way." The official added, "We will continue to advance core growth engines to secure a foothold in the future financial market," and "We will connect this to tangible profits to further raise corporate value."
