Japan considers stablecoins for childcare and grocery subsidies, eyes onchain shift for government bonds and payment infrastructure

Japan is considering using stablecoins and tokenised deposits for subsidies with restricted uses such as childcare and groceries, while also examining a broader shift to blockchain-based finance. The Financial Services Agency has released minutes from a forum meeting and plans an interim summary in early 2027. Discussions cover programmable functions tied to real transactions, linking onchain and offchain payments, and ensuring payment-system stability and safety.

Hana Bank issues South Korea\'s first same-day settlement digital bond worth $100 million

Hana Bank issued a blockchain-based digital bond and became the first in South Korea’s foreign-currency bond market to implement same-day settlement, or T+0. The bank said it used Euroclear’s blockchain platform D-FMI to issue a $100 million, five-year foreign-currency digital bond. The digital bond processes issuance, registration and settlement on a distributed ledger network. Standard Chartered served as sole lead manager for the transaction.

Securities CEOs head to Europe to seek investment opportunities in AI, digital finance and space industry

The Korea Financial Investment Association and a delegation of chief executives from 14 securities firms are visiting Germany and Luxembourg from Sept. 6 to 12 to seek investment opportunities and global cooperation in new growth sectors such as artificial intelligence, digital finance and the space industry. The group will attend IFA 2026 in Berlin and hold meetings in Luxembourg on financial cooperation, space industry commercialization and digital capital market infrastructure.
