PC AI race intensifies as big tech joins local, on-device push

Moves by major technology companies targeting local, on-device AI that runs on standard hardware are accelerating, with Microsoft joining Nvidia in an aggressive push. Nvidia unveils DGX Spark 64GB to run 100 billion-parameter models locally

Nvidia on Monday unveiled a 64GB configuration of its personal AI supercomputer, Nvidia DGX Spark. The company said the 64GB system can run local agents on the device, enabling on-device processing without relying on the cloud. As workloads grow, two systems can be connected into a single cluster through Nvidia Sync Cluster Assistant without additional setup. It is scheduled to launch in October through major manufacturing partners.

Nvidia to invest $3.5 billion in MediaTek, reshaping AI chip market

Nvidia has bought $3.5 billion worth of convertible bonds issued by Taiwan chipmaker MediaTek, expanding cooperation on AI semiconductors. MediaTek plans to adopt Nvidia\'s NVLink Fusion to link customised AI chips to Nvidia-based data centres. The companies said they will broaden collaboration in AI infrastructure, local AI computing and automotive. MediaTek is targeting $2.0 billion in revenue from its data-centre chip design business this year.
