Tesla says it is developing wheelchair-accessible robotaxi, keeps model and launch timeline under wraps

Tesla says it is developing a wheelchair-accessible, purpose-built autonomous vehicle in Texas. The company made the statement at a Washington, D.C. City Council hearing discussing legislation that could allow robotaxi services. Senior policy adviser India Herdman said the product is actively in development, but Tesla did not disclose the launch date, vehicle model or specifications and did not provide further comment. Tesla’s current driverless operations use Model Y vehicles that are not wheelchair-accessible, and its planned Cybercab is also not designed for direct wheelchair boarding.
