Zero tax support for production costs; K-games face neglect despite 60 percent of content exports
South Korea\'s game industry, which accounts for 60.4 percent of the country\'s content exports, has been excluded for years from production cost tax credits that apply to video content and webtoons. The sector is growing slowly, usage rates are falling and small and mid-sized developers are going bankrupt as development costs rise. The Culture Ministry has submitted a proposal to the Finance Ministry, while lawmakers have introduced bills to expand tax credits and adjust related rules for games and e-sports.

Clover Games files for bankruptcy, to end all game services
Clover Games, a mobile game developer, said on April 10 it filed a corporate bankruptcy petition with the competent court a day earlier. The company said worsening management conditions and a cash crunch made independent survival impossible. All games currently in service are scheduled to end at 11 p.m. on May 9. It had already blocked in-app payments on April 6 to reduce user harm, and said early termination is possible.

Clover Games\' HeavenHells tops 1 million pre-registrations
Clover Games said on Jan. 29 that global pre-registrations for its new mobile RPG HeavenHells reached 1 million. The game is a near-future Tokyo-set team tactical RPG developed by H2 Studio. The company will grant cumulative pre-registration rewards, including the SSR character Erena, to all users who log in after launch and offer tickets via an event. A preview broadcast is set for Feb. 3.
