Robinhood CEO says crypto future depends on tokenising real-world assets

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev said growth in the cryptocurrency industry depends on putting real-world assets on-chain. In a CNBC interview, he said the future of crypto lies in real-world assets and that assets not tied to underlying utility are not productive. Robinhood launched its Stock Token service, letting eligible users trade tokenised stocks 24 hours a day, and plans to use them as collateral across DeFi.

U.S. President Donald Trump bought large amounts of major tech stocks including Apple, Nvidia and Microsoft after a tariff-driven market selloff in April 2025, CNBC reported after reviewing his annual financial disclosure. The filing shows 327 stock purchases on April 8. The White House said his assets are held in a fully discretionary account managed by an independent third-party institution. The disclosure also lists 2025 revenue of $2.24 billion from various sources.
