Apple, Microsoft AI strategies put to the test as AI cost surge debate grows
Apple and Microsoft face a key month as investors and developers watch whether they can shift perceptions of their AI momentum. Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference runs June 8 to 12 and is expected to highlight on-device AI backed by its chip design experience. Microsoft is expected to unveil more in-house models at its June 2 to 3 Build conference as it leans less on OpenAI. Companies are also voicing growing concern over rising AI costs.

Ubase to acquire voice AI startup ReturnZero, launch end-to-end counselling AI agent in July
South Korean BPO company Ubase Group said on Tuesday it will acquire voice-recognition AI startup ReturnZero. The company said ReturnZero has AI speech recognition and engineering capabilities and a backend server architecture optimised for high-performance, large-volume processing. It said ReturnZero has strengths in speech-to-text speed and competitiveness, including diarization technology, 30 patents and specialised developers. Ubase said it plans to commercialise an end-to-end counselling AI agent in July.

AI reshapes enterprise IT adoption playbook, a16z analysis finds
Many surveys suggest corporate AI adoption often stalls at the pilot stage, including an MIT finding that 95 percent of pilot projects do not move into production. Andreessen Horowitz, citing internal data and conversations with executives, disputes that view. Its analysis focuses on where enterprises use AI and where returns are clear, excluding consumer-focused companies. It says 29 percent of Fortune 500 firms and 19 percent of Global 2000 firms are paying customers of leading AI startups and are running AI in production.
