China\'s top AI still dependent on Nvidia as shift to domestic chips slows
Many of China’s most advanced AI models are still being trained on Nvidia chips, as local developers struggle to switch because of the cost and technical burden of moving away from Nvidia’s CUDA software ecosystem, the South China Morning Post reported. Engineers said migrating training workflows to Huawei’s Ascend platform can require extensive code rewrites and raise time and costs by at least 50 percent. The report said domestication is progressing faster in inference than in training.

AWS launched Kiro Crew, an autonomous workspace. Chinese firms also quickened moves to build large-scale AI models.

Alibaba Qwen 3.8-Max releases API at lower price than Moonshot AI\'s Kimi K3
Alibaba Group on Aug. 3 released its new flagship model, Qwen 3.8-Max, as an API and set its price below rival Moonshot AI’s popular Kimi K3 model, The Information reported. The open-source version of Qwen 3.8-Max will be available to download next week. Qwen 3.8-Max is Alibaba’s largest model to date, with 2.4 trillion parameters.
