Hunter Biden memecoin hits $144 billion then plunges 95 percent in 30 minutes

A memecoin called LAPTOP, which Hunter Biden helped found, surged immediately after trading began and then fell more than 95 percent in about 30 minutes. Cryptopolitan reported the token started trading on Coinbase-built Base and peaked within minutes. Arkham estimated fully diluted value briefly hit $144 billion before dropping to $5 billion. Large token transfers were detected, and one tracked wallet suffered heavy losses. Analysts also warned about concentrated, recently created top holder wallets.

Hunter Biden to launch \'LAPTOP\' memecoin tied to laptop controversy

Hunter Biden (헌터 바이든) will launch a memecoin called LAPTOP, themed on the laptop controversy surrounding him, on Coinbase-built Base on Sept. 9. The token supply totals 1 billion, with 200 million set aside for two airdrops. Eligible recipients include wallets that lost money investing in U.S. President Donald Trump\'s TRUMP memecoin, Biden\'s Substack subscribers and subscribers to Andrew Callaghan\'s mailing list. The project also outlines founder allocations and conditional token burns.

Most new coins since 2024 fail to hold even TGE price, data show

More than 90 percent of crypto projects launched since 2024 with market capitalisations above $100 million have failed to regain their listing prices, data showed. CryptoRank found only 8 of 113 tokens released from 2024 to 2026 traded above their token generation event (TGE) prices, while the median return was -95.7 percent. Hyperliquid was a notable outlier. Separate research from Memento Research and Delphi Digital reported similar post-listing declines.
