Kwon Dae-young says National Growth Fund may consider startups for next investments
Kwon Dae-young (권대영), vice chairman of South Korea’s Financial Services Commission, said startups are being considered as the National Growth Fund’s next investment destination. Speaking after opening remarks at NextRise Seoul 2026 in Seoul, he said participating firms are targets of the fund. He also said 150 trillion won would be invested in advanced strategic industries and urged overseas institutional investors to pay attention to the KOSDAQ market.

National Growth Fund bets 800 billion won on FuriosaAI, backs SK Bioscience too
South Korea\'s National Growth Fund will support domestic AI chipmaker FuriosaAI to expand mass production and develop next-generation chips, while also providing funding to Smilegate for an AI data centre project and to SK Bioscience for vaccine development and plant expansion. The Financial Services Commission approved five projects worth 4.14 trillion won, raising the fund\'s cumulative approvals to 12.5 trillion won across 16 projects. Support also includes loans for L&F Plus and funding for switchboard maker Geunu.

Upstage valuation nears 1.6 trillion won, spotlighting KT\'s early investment
KT’s early investment in AI startup Upstage is drawing renewed attention as Upstage’s valuation rises. KT invested 10 billion won in October 2023 to acquire a 2.84 percent stake. The investment sector values Upstage at about 1.6 trillion won, implying KT’s stake is worth about 45 billion won. KT and Upstage have also collaborated on projects including a Thai-language large language model initiative.
