National AI competition opens with 1,124 teams in AI Champion and AI Rookie events
South Korea\'s Ministry of Science and ICT said the main events of the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Competition, AI Champion and AI Rookie, have formally opened after receiving applications from 1,124 teams and 3,611 participants. AI Champion drew 403 teams and will award prizes after rounds running from August to December. AI Rookie drew 721 university teams, with 100 finalists to be selected on May 29.

Kakao seeks applicants for second AI Rookie Camp to narrow AI education gap outside Seoul
Kakao is recruiting participants for a fully funded artificial intelligence training camp aimed at reducing the digital education gap for youths outside the Seoul capital area. The company said applications for the second cohort of its ESG programme, Kakao AI Rookie Camp, will be accepted through June 10. The camp will be held twice in August for 3 nights and 4 days at the Kakao AI Campus, selecting 100 students through document and interview screening.

Nationwide AI competition launches with 3 billion won in prizes, aims for 2 million participants
South Korea has launched a nationwide artificial intelligence competition aimed at letting anyone experience AI and build practical skills. The event offers 3 billion won in total prizes and will run from April to November, targeting more than 2 million participants. Programs are tailored for the general public, students, university researchers and vulnerable groups. The government plans to link domestic firms’ AI services throughout and support jobs and startups for top performers.
