Nasdaq teams up with CME Group to launch Nasdaq-CME Crypto Index

Nasdaq and CME Group will integrate their cryptocurrency indexes and launch a new Nasdaq-CME Crypto Index, Cointelegraph reported on Jan. 9. The existing Nasdaq Crypto Index will be renamed under the integration. The index will include bitcoin, ether, XRP, solana, chainlink, cardano and avalanche. Cointelegraph said interest in index-based crypto investment products is rising as the market becomes more complex, with industry executives highlighting potential growth in crypto index ETFs.

Flaw found in Babylon staking code may delay block production

A vulnerability has been discovered in Bitcoin staking protocol Babylon that could allow a malicious validator to disrupt the consensus process by omitting the block hash field, Cointelegraph reported on Jan. 9. The defect occurs in Babylon’s BLS vote extension and could cause conflicts among validators, delaying block production. An anonymous contributor warned it can trigger a panic in a critical code path. No exploitation has been confirmed so far.

Zcash developer activity slows amid governance dispute, ZEC falls for second straight month

Zcash developer activity has fallen to its lowest level since 2021, and the privacy-focused cryptocurrency’s ZEC token has dropped about 40 percent over the past two months, Cointelegraph reported. Santiment attributed the decline in development activity to overlapping governance disputes and falling prices.
