China's AI research lab Z.ai has been confirmed as the developer of the anonymous coding model Ox Alpha. The model appeared on OpenRouter without a logo, company name or separate announcement and drew millions of developer queries in a week. It supports a 1,048,576-token context window and can handle text, images and video. Developers and researchers traced it through tokenizer fingerprinting, server-response comparisons and error-format tests.
