LG Electronics cooling distribution unit wins Nvidia quality certification, first in Korea

LG Electronics said it has obtained final quality certification from Nvidia for its 600-kW coolant distribution unit (CDU) for AI data centres, the first South Korean company to do so. The CDU circulates coolant to cold plates attached to GPUs and CPUs to absorb heat. The company said it will expand Nvidia certification across higher-capacity CDU models and broaden its data-centre thermal management portfolio from chillers to cold plates.

South Korea science ministry breaks ground on Korea New Light Accelerator, aims for 2029 completion

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Basic Science Institute on July 27 held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Korea New Light Accelerator in Ochang, Cheongju. The fourth-generation circular synchrotron will use radiation generated by accelerating electrons close to the speed of light to analyse materials at the atomic level. The ministry plans to invest 1.16 trillion won, aiming to complete the project by end-2029, with KBSI overseeing construction.

LG CNS joins global AI materials alliance, backs AX for South Korean firms

LG CNS said on July 27 it was selected as a founding member of the AI Materials Foundry, a global materials development collaboration led by British AI startup CuspAI. The alliance includes 48 companies and research institutes including Nvidia, Meta, AMD, 3M and Merck. LG CNS will oversee the platform’s introduction and operations in South Korea, supporting data integration, result interpretation, and platform deployment and maintenance for firms developing new materials.
