Pearl Abyss said on July 27 its open-world action adventure game Crimson Desert recorded the highest Steam revenue among new intellectual properties (IPs) released this year.
A recent report released by global market research firm Alinea Analytics showed Crimson Desert has generated more than $190 million in cumulative revenue on Steam alone since its launch in March.
That is the third-highest revenue among all game titles released on Steam this year, behind Forza Horizon 6 and Biohazard Requiem. Among the top five revenue titles, Crimson Desert is the only new IP.
Alinea Analytics noted that most top-ranked games are sequels in existing franchises that have already secured strong fan bases and said, "Crimson Desert's achievement as a new IP is even more meaningful."
The company said the result is more meaningful because it was achieved without any price discount promotions. It said Crimson Desert maintained a full-price policy, meaning a standard complete-game price, since release in the highly competitive global console and PC game market while still posting strong sales, proving solid demand.
Its sales trend also showed steep growth. Crimson Desert sold 2 million copies within a day of release, reached 5 million before a month had passed, and topped cumulative sales of 6 million copies 83 days after launch.
