Shiba Inu (SHIB) lead ambassador Shytoshi Kusama (시토시 쿠사마) has suspended social media activity for more than 70 days, with the community watching his next steps. As there have been past cases in which he made new announcements after long silences, attention is focused on whether further updates will follow this time as well.

On July 26, blockchain media outlet U.Today reported that Kusama has not posted on X, formerly Twitter, or reacted to other users' posts since May 13. His silence has continued for 74 days so far.

This is not the first time Kusama has taken a long break. He also sharply reduced social media activity in late 2025 and during parts of 2026, maintaining a low profile. As there is precedent of him unveiling new projects or ecosystem-related news after periods of silence, the community is placing weight on the possibility that this break, too, is part of preparing an announcement. However, no concrete evidence has yet been confirmed that a major announcement is imminent.

Development work Kusama has mentioned directly is being cited as a reason for the silence. In January, he explained that he had been less active because he was "building something" and said he was working on an independent artificial intelligence project.

Kusama has used X as a key channel to communicate with the Shiba Inu community. He has communicated by leaving hints through changes to his profile description or location information, or by sharing development direction and thoughts through live broadcasts.

The community is now gauging project changes through ecosystem contributors' activity and on-chain data, rather than direct comments from Kusama. With the key figure's public activity halted, the movements of project participants and blockchain data are effectively serving as the main signals.

SHIB token burns have continued steadily regardless of Kusama's silence. Shibburn data showed about 7.15 million SHIB were burned in the past 24 hours, and the daily burn rate rose 66 percent from the previous day. Burns totaled 60.58 million SHIB over the past seven days, and 288.61 million SHIB over the past 30 days, it said.

On a monthly basis, Robinhood was found to have burned the most SHIB. Robinhood sent 152,792,823 SHIB to a dead wallet through 106 transactions. Total cumulative burns have reached about 410,840,400,000,000 SHIB through 210,280 transactions so far.

A large portion of that total comes from a burn of about 410,000,000,000,000 SHIB carried out in May 2021 by Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. In the Shiba Inu ecosystem, attention is focused on when Kusama will return and what signals community-led burn activity may send to token flows.
