Fogo launches mainnet for ultra-fast blockchain it says is 18 times faster than Solana, Sui

Fogo has begun operating a new blockchain mainnet built on the Solana Virtual Machine, The Block reported on Jan. 15. The blockchain, developed by former Wall Street executives, was designed with real-time transaction execution in mind and has a 40-millisecond block creation time. Fogo said it redesigned blockchain infrastructure for transaction applications and aims to support decentralised exchanges, trading protocols and financial applications. It also enabled Fogo Flames points holders to convert rewards into FOGO tokens, tradable on major exchanges including Binance, OKX, Bybit and Bitget.

KOSPI races to new records as K-defence stocks and ETFs sweep returns

South Korea's KOSPI is repeatedly setting record highs, closing at 4,840.74 on Jan. 16 after first breaking 4,800. Defence stocks have emerged as market leaders, with leveraged defence ETFs rising about 68 percent and regular defence ETFs gaining more than 30 percent. Shipbuilding ETFs also rose on expectations of benefits from U.S. policy. Gains are linked to Donald Trump's push for a larger U.S. defence budget and broader security tensions.

Hana Securities sells out 300 billion won of structured notes in a week

Hana Securities said on Thursday that both the on-demand and fixed-term versions of its Hana THE structured notes, first issued on Jan. 9, sold out within a week, totaling 300 billion won. The firm said the notes mature within 1 year and pay principal and interest based on an agreed yield. It plans to invest the funds in venture capital and expand productive finance, with annual issuance to exceed 2 trillion won.
