Saemangeum to become physical AI, robotics hub; Han PM says Hyundai Motor investment begins new direction

South Korean Prime Minister Han Sung-sook (한성숙) visited Saemangeum in North Jeolla province as her first trip to the region since taking office and discussed support for Hyundai Motor Group investment and measures to foster physical AI and robotics industries. She held a corporate meeting with tenant firms, experts, government ministries and provincial officials. The government plans to revise the Saemangeum master plan around a concrete 10-year development blueprint and set up a pan-government support system.

Korean media fall behind global platforms; original content expansion urged

A study found the overall competitiveness of South Korea's major media services is lower than that of global platforms, and called for narrowing gaps in capital and content investment and integrating fragmented domestic platforms. In a survey of 32 experts, 93.8 percent agreed Korean media services face a crisis from competition with global platforms. User surveys showed domestic paid OTT services were seen at 57 to 73 percent of Netflix’s competitiveness, with expanding original content cited as the top priority.

Nvidia steps up cooperation with South Korea to expand AI ecosystem at San Francisco AI summit

Nvidia said South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and leading South Korean business figures and researchers will meet Nvidia and ecosystem partners at an AI summit in San Francisco this week to explore the direction of AI development in South Korea. As a first step, Nvidia and the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology said they will set up a joint AI research centre at KAIST in Seoul to advance agentic AI.
