Kakao Games data leak expands to 243, additional 103 RINK users confirmed

Kakao Games said the number of people affected by a personal data leak rose to 243 from 140 after it confirmed an additional 103 RINK users were exposed while investigating the earlier incident. The company said there was no separate new attack and that the newly confirmed leaked data consisted of its own identification codes and some country codes. Kakao Games said it has blocked abnormal access routes and is investigating the cause with an external security firm.

Kakao Entertainment to merge KakaoPage and KakaoWebtoon this year, shifting to one platform

Kakao Entertainment said it will merge KakaoPage and KakaoWebtoon and reorganise its story business around a single platform centred on KakaoPage. The company plans to brief users of both services on Sept. 29 on the integration method and timeline and complete the platform merger within the year. The unified platform will combine content, user data and operations, including about 16,000 original story IPs, usage base and subscription patterns.

MSIT discusses platform policy in AI era at strategic task forum

South Korea's Ministry of Science and ICT reviewed changes in the platform industry environment stemming from the spread of artificial intelligence and discussed future policy direction. The ministry held a strategic task forum in Seoul with the Digital Platform Policy Forum, the Korea Internet Corporations Association and the Korea Information and Communications Law Association. Presentations covered the value of platforms in the AI era and regulatory issues and improvements. Officials said views raised will be reflected in future policy.
