A warning has emerged that a sharp surge in Zcash (ZEC) could act as a risk signal for the bitcoin (BTC) market.
On Aug. 27, blockchain media outlet U.Today reported that CryptoQuant data showed the Zcash risk indicator entering an extreme zone, flashing a warning signal for bitcoin holders.
The key point is a past pattern in which an abnormal surge in Zcash served as a precursor to a bitcoin correction. CryptoQuant focused on a move in which Zcash rose strongly while bitcoin remained stuck in a $60,000 to $80,000 range after a previous peak. Market analysts see cases where this flow led to a broader market correction.
Crypto analyst Martun said, "Zcash surged 70 percent in just a few days," adding, "Under the current market structure, bitcoin is more concerning than Zcash's rise." He noted that such signals have appeared before major selloffs in the past.
Short-term overheating signals were also confirmed in derivatives market indicators. CoinGlass technical indicators showed that over the past 24 hours, Zcash spot trading volume fell 24.97 percent and derivatives trading volume dropped 24.16 percent. That means institutional expectations around the launch of a spot exchange-traded fund (ETF) have already been priced in, and the asset price has retraced to $779.38.
On a 4-hour basis, futures sell orders surged 101.68 percent. In addition, $1.53 billion in borrowed funds are tied up in Zcash margin positions. That exceeds 11 percent of Zcash's market capitalisation of $13.13 billion. If price volatility rises while high leverage balances remain, the structure could trigger cascading forced liquidations.
Within the market, questions have also been raised about the sustainability of the Zcash ecosystem. Alex Thorn (알렉스 손), head of research at Galaxy Digital, criticised market participants for viewing Zcash as "private bitcoin" and pushing up its price. He said account-based blockchains are structurally closer to a "privacy nightmare" and are substantially weaker on privacy than UTXO-based chains such as bitcoin.
In this situation, if $1.53 billion in the Zcash futures market faces forced liquidation, the shock could spread across related trading platforms. Bitcoin is assessed as lacking strong buying interest at its current price range, raising the possibility that downside pressure could follow if derivatives-market anxiety overlaps with liquidity outflows. Whether risk-off sentiment among market participants grows is expected to be a key near-term point to watch.
watching people from the ethereum and solana ecosystems pump ZEC because it's "private bitcoin" meanwhile, those account-based blockchains are privacy nightmares. they are substantially less private than UTXO-based chains like bitcoin
