Dunamu is joining hands with global payments company Visa to pursue next-generation financial services such as stablecoin-based payments, cross-border remittances and artificial intelligence (AI) payments.
Dunamu said on Aug. 28 it signed a strategic partnership with Visa to drive innovation in next-generation finance and payments markets based on stablecoins and AI.
The companies unveiled a strategic partnership roadmap on Aug. 27 Korea time at Visa’s Global Market Support Center in San Francisco.
The core of the partnership is to combine Dunamu’s digital asset technology capabilities with Visa’s global payments network to develop new financial services such as stablecoin-based payments, cross-border remittances and settlement.
Specific service formats, target markets and launch schedules have not yet been decided. The companies plan to gradually flesh out the cooperation after reviewing relevant laws and regulatory requirements, as well as technical and commercial considerations.
They will also review ways to connect stablecoins to global finance and payments infrastructure. They aim to pursue digital asset-linked payment services in major global markets and develop business models that can improve efficiency in cross-border remittances and in payment and settlement processes.
A stablecoin business model using OUSD from Open Standard, recently disclosed, is also included in the review.
The companies will expand cooperation in future payments using AI. They plan to jointly examine technologies and infrastructure related to 'Agentic Commerce', in which AI searches for goods and services on behalf of users and then carries out purchases and payments, by combining AI with stablecoin-based payment and settlement infrastructure.
Dunamu plans to use in the partnership its experience in digital asset trading, custody and transfers gained through operating Upbit, as well as its blockchain infrastructure, security, abnormal transaction detection and anti-money laundering (AML) capabilities.
Dunamu CEO Oh Kyung-seok (오경석) said, "The spread of AI, stablecoins and tokenisation is a key trend that will change how finance and commerce work," adding, "Through this partnership, we will create a new global financial experience."
