Brad Garlinghouse (브래드 갈링하우스), CEO of Ripple, said cryptocurrency has settled into the mainstream, citing survey results showing the number of crypto holders in the United States has topped 67 million. U.Today, a blockchain outlet, reported on Aug. 20 that Garlinghouse wrote on X after attending a White House crypto summit that cryptocurrency is no longer a fringe industry.

Garlinghouse attended the summit alongside U.S. President Donald Trump, SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and CFTC Chairman Michael Selig. He added that the figure also shows crypto voters remain a force.

The figure he cited came from the National Cryptocurrency Association's 2026 report on crypto holder status. The NCA, working with Harris Poll, surveyed 10,000 crypto holders and estimated the number of U.S. holders rose to more than 67 million, or about 1 in 4 U.S. adults.

The report said crypto use is not limited to investing. Respondents said they use digital assets for payments, transfers to family and friends, money management, donations and business activities. Some 63 percent of respondents said their interest in using cryptocurrency in 2026 increased compared with 2025.

The composition of holders also broadened. The share of female holders rose 10 percent from the previous year. Among people who entered the crypto market between 2025 and 2026, women accounted for 42 percent, higher than 34 percent among earlier entrants.

The income distribution was also not skewed only toward high earners. Some 90 percent of holders had annual income of less than $500,000, and 23 percent were below $75,000.

The White House summit also mentioned a shift in the regulatory stance. Chairman Michael Selig said the era of political lawfare, debanking and enforcement-driven regulation is over. Chairman Paul Atkins also stressed the need for greater regulatory clarity for crypto firms and companies raising funds through digital assets.
