LG Electronics is speeding up cooperation with Nvidia on its robotics business. LG Electronics said on Aug. 18 it invited a senior Nvidia executive, a key partner in robotics, to its Data Factory and discussed ways to accelerate the business with top executives from LG Group affiliates, including CEO Jae-cheol Ryu (류재철). The meeting was a reunion held four days after the companies signed a memorandum of understanding in the United States, and they agreed to strengthen cooperation and speed up commercialization.

Participants also reviewed the operating status of the Data Factory, where LG's 'Cloi' robots are deployed to generate, collect and learn data. The Data Factory is a space that uses high-quality data LG Electronics has secured at worksites over decades and the know-how of skilled workers as learning materials. It applies Nvidia's robotics solutions to synthesize and amplify data and scale up high-quality data in large volumes.

LG Electronics set a goal of building a “data flywheel,” a data virtuous-cycle system that repeatedly trains on the high-quality data it has secured and improves performance. It envisions that adding data-based software capabilities to hardware competitiveness can take its robotics business to the next level. To that end, LG Electronics emphasized it has designated this year as the first year of a leap in its robotics business.

The company is accelerating efforts to strengthen robotics capabilities by creating a dedicated organization. It has a broad robot lineup spanning industrial and commercial uses as well as home use, and it also has competitiveness in key components such as actuators. With the Data Factory, it aims to establish itself as a total robotics solution provider covering both hardware and software.
