Norway's sovereign wealth fund has been confirmed to hold 6,151,062 shares in BitMine Immersion Technologies.

Blockchain outlet The Defiant reported on Aug. 13 local time that a Norges Bank holdings disclosure for the quarter ended June 30 valued the stake at $81,908,635.

The holding is seen as an example of indirect exposure by the Government Pension Fund Global to Ethereum. The fund did not buy Ethereum (ETH) directly. The disclosed investment target is shares in the listed company BitMine, with the firm's Ethereum holdings, operations and financing structure reflected in the share price.

BitMine was not included in a Norges Bank holdings report as of Dec. 31, 2025, but was newly added in the report as of June 30, 2026. Norges Bank disclosures did not say when the shares were purchased or what the actual acquisition price was.

BitMine describes itself as an "Ethereum treasury and blockchain infrastructure company." In an Aug. 10 release submitted in filings to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, it said its Ethereum holdings stood at 5,805,238 ETH as of Aug. 9. In the same material, BitMine said the total size of its cryptocurrency, cash, marketable securities and other investment assets was $11.6 billion.

Of that, 5,067,309 ETH was staked. In an earlier announcement, BitMine presented a goal of accumulating Ethereum at about 5 percent of total supply. The Norwegian sovereign wealth fund's investment exposure is formed through shares in a company with such large Ethereum holdings.

BitMine also said it was added to the Russell 1000 index on June 26. It has not been confirmed whether the index inclusion was behind the Norwegian sovereign wealth fund's purchases. Neither side's disclosures say the index inclusion was a direct reason.

Norges Bank Investment Management said total assets under management of the Government Pension Fund Global stood at 22,683 billion Norwegian crowns as of June 30. Of that, 72.1 percent is invested in equities. The manager disclosed its full holdings along with half-year results on Aug. 12.

The disclosure shows that a large sovereign wealth fund is gaining exposure to Ethereum through related listed companies without directly buying it. It also showed that companies such as BitMine that accumulate large amounts of ETH as financial assets are functioning as a channel linking traditional finance capital. The confirmed facts at this point extend only to stock holdings as of the end of June, and the actual purchase timing and investment decision background have not been disclosed.
