Coinbase’s Base app is focusing on building a comprehensive trading platform, which is expected to reduce its closeness to Base, the Coinbase-led layer-2 blockchain, The Block reported, citing Base creator Jesse Pollak (제시 폴락).
Pollak said in an interview with Gareth Jenkinson on The Block podcast "The Starting Block" that as it changes into a trading app, its Base-centered approach is naturally fading, the report said. He said it will broaden its scope to enable trading of everything, and users will be able to trade various network assets and functions from anywhere.
Jordan "Kobi" Fish (조던 '코비' 피시) took over leadership of the Base app last month, and Pollak can focus on the Base blockchain itself and work to expand the Base chain into trading, payments and finance. Fish joined Coinbase after Coinbase acquired Fish’s cryptocurrency fundraising platform Echo last year for about $375 million in cash and stock combined.
Pollak said the Base app had focused on growing the Base ecosystem with products built directly on the network, but under Fish it will broaden its scope to cover other blockchain assets and functions. He said Fish will focus only on building the best trading product, and that Base must compete by having everything needed to build the app users want, including the best assets, the deepest liquidity and the best execution.
