Cryptocurrency exchange Bitget has signed an agreement with authorities in Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City and is reviewing a move into locally licensed business there.
Cointelegraph reported on Aug. 7 that Bitget decided to explore whether it can operate under a local licence to secure an institutional foothold in Bhutan’s digital asset industry.
Under the agreement, Bitget can establish a legal base of operations in Gelephu Mindfulness City and prepare to apply for related financial services licences.
Gelephu Mindfulness City is a $100 billion autonomous economic zone.
Bitget CEO Gracy Chen (그레이시 첸) said Gelephu Mindfulness City is emerging as a new hub in digital finance. She said Bitget will contribute to ecosystem growth through its exchange operating experience, infrastructure know-how and development of local talent.
