[DigitalToday reporter Chi-gyu Hwang] Tim Scott (팀 스콧), chair of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, said the CLARITY bill could be brought to a Senate vote before the August recess.
Cointelegraph reported on Wednesday that Scott said the Senate should hold an initial vote on the CLARITY bill before entering its next work period this week.
In an interview with Fox Business, Scott said there was still time for the Senate to act on the bill before the recess. He said Senate Republican leader John Thune (존 튠), who has authority to set the floor agenda and voting schedule, could announce a schedule for a final vote on the bill in the coming days.
The remarks followed a call a day earlier by Senator Cynthia Lummis (신시아 루미스) to vote on the bill before the August recess. If Republican leaders set a voting schedule, the bill would need 60 votes to pass the Senate.
Issues remain before a vote. Democratic lawmakers are concerned about problems stemming from U.S. President Donald Trump investing in cryptocurrencies. The banking industry is calling for the bill to reflect licensing and regulatory limits for cryptocurrency companies that handle stablecoins.
To hold a vote before the recess, agreement is needed on such adjustments and the floor schedule. Once the issues are coordinated and the agenda is set, a vote schedule could be set as soon as this week.
