RSUPPORT, a remote support specialist, said on Aug. 6 it will jointly develop remote support business models with cyber-physical systems (CPS) security firm NNSP that can be applied to the National Network Security Framework (N2SF) and industrial control networks.

The companies will cooperate on businesses that combine remote maintenance convenience and control-network security. They plan to link RSUPPORT’s remote support technology with NNSP’s network linkage, data transfer and control-network visibility technologies to create a secure environment for national and public institutions and industrial sites.

The company said situations are increasing in which external maintenance personnel must remotely access systems at national and public institutions and at power generation, rail, water treatment and manufacturing facilities. While this allows rapid response to failures, it can be abused as a route for external intrusion or malware if access authority and work processes are not properly controlled.

In response, the companies plan to apply together remote support technology that manages “who, when, with what approval, connected to which system” and security technology that monitors connections between networks and abnormal signs in control networks.

RSUPPORT has products including “RemoteView SE,” which can be used as an online service control system, the remote control solution “RemoteView,” and the remote support solution “RemoteCall.”

The companies plan to first focus cooperation on demand for online service control systems for national and public institutions and N2SF transitions, and then expand the scope to remote maintenance of industrial control networks and equipment monitoring in areas such as power generation, transport, water treatment and manufacturing.

Kim Il-yong (김일용), CEO of NNSP, said remote maintenance at industrial sites improves work efficiency but can become a new channel into control networks from outside. He said the companies will create a business model that enables needed tasks to be carried out conveniently while protecting control-network safety by combining RSUPPORT’s remote support technology with NNSP’s CDS, one-way transmission and control-network visibility technologies.

He said cooperation with NNSP will expand RSUPPORT’s remote support technology into N2SF and industrial control network environments and present a new remote maintenance model that combines security and work convenience.
