KT and Yonsei Medical Center will cooperate to develop medical AI services.

KT said on Aug. 4 it signed a memorandum of understanding with Yonsei Medical Center at the centre in Seoul's Seodaemun-gu to strengthen the foundation for using medical data and enhance medical competitiveness.

The two organisations will pursue an expansion of the foundation for standardising medical data and upgrading data-use infrastructure. They will also study ways to apply AI-based medical services and build a mid- to long-term cooperation framework to activate medical data use.

They will convert data generated in medical settings, including treatment records, test results, medical images and research data, into a form that AI can learn from and analyse. The move will support the development and validation of medical AI services.

KT will use its AI transformation (AX) platform capabilities to convert medical data into digital assets that AI can analyse and build a foundation for safe use. Yonsei Medical Center will present requirements for using the data based on experience and expertise in real medical settings and review clinician-centred use plans.

The two organisations plan to continue identifying joint research projects for innovation in medical services and expand cooperation with other institutions.

Geum Gi-chang (금기창), head of Yonsei Medical Center, said, "Future competitiveness in medicine depends on capabilities to use data and AI." He said he would accelerate digital innovation across treatment, research and education.

Kim Bong-kyun (김봉균), vice president and head of KT's Enterprise Division, said, "We will advance medical data into a form optimised for AI use and lead the development of the medical AI ecosystem and service innovation."
