KT will intensively manage communications quality at major tourist destinations and transport hubs to prepare for large-scale travel during the summer holiday season.
KT said on Wednesday it will run a network quality intensive monitoring period from late July to the end of August, targeting major beaches and campsites nationwide as well as transport hubs in crowded areas.
During the period, KT will strengthen real-time traffic monitoring and carry out base station facility optimisation work. It will also conduct activities to prevent damage to communications facilities caused by weather disasters such as torrential rain. KT said it has completed advance inspections of key facilities at risk of flooding, including low-lying exchanges and communications ducts.
To enable swift recovery in the event of disruptions, it will also operate an integrated response system with group affiliates and facility partner companies. Each regional headquarters will form on-site repair teams and maintain a 24-hour emergency standby system. KT will also expand the deployment of its umbrella cell, which can provide communications services even at disaster sites that are difficult to access, such as mountainous areas.
Jeong Seon-il (정선일), executive director and head of KT's Network Operations Headquarters, said, "We are operating an intensive monitoring system so that customers can use communications services with peace of mind during the summer holiday season." He added, "Even if an unexpected weather disaster occurs, we will quickly normalise services centred on the on-site repair teams."
