[DigitalToday reporter Ji-young Lee] Cucon will link about 50 global mobile payment services to Toss Place payment terminals. It plans to enable small merchants to accept mobile payments from foreign visitors using only existing terminals, improving convenience and helping attract overseas customers.

Cucon said on Tuesday that stores in Seoul using Toss Place terminals will be able to use mobile payment services from about 50 overseas payment firms, including UnionPay, WeChat Pay and Indonesia’s integrated QR payment system, QRIS.

The service will be provided by linking Cucon’s global payment infrastructure with Seoul Pay and overseas payment firms. Merchants can accept foreign payments through existing Toss Place terminals.

Foreign visitors to South Korea can pay by scanning a Seoul Pay QR code with a mobile payment app from their home country. Small merchants can add overseas payment methods without separate infrastructure investment to attract foreign customers.

Cucon is Seoul city’s selected operator for the Seoul Pay global payment and settlement project. It expanded support this year to Alipay+, Indonesia’s QRIS and Singapore’s Liquid Group.

Cucon will also seek additional partnerships with payment firms in Asian countries where QR payments are widely used, including Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and India.

Cucon CEO Jong-hyun Kim (김종현) said, "Starting with Toss Place, we will expand global pay services to various offline payment environments."
