[DigitalToday reporter Yoonseo Lee] XRPL validator Vet urged an end to unsubstantiated claims that the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT) is already using XRP or will soon adopt it.
According to blockchain media outlet The Crypto Basic on July 13 local time, Vet said such speculation obscures tangible achievements in the XRPL ecosystem and even damages community credibility.
The remarks came after Tom Zschach, former chief innovation officer at SWIFT, publicly denied the XRP link rumours that have recently spread again.
Vet said influencers who claim SWIFT is already using XRP or speak as if it will inevitably adopt it should be blocked. He said the rumours resemble unverified claims that previously spread around the Depository Trust & Clearing Corp (DTCC). He criticised the rumours as unhelpful to the community and damaging to trust.
He instead stressed the need to focus on development actually under way on XRPL. Key tasks he cited include security upgrades, onchain lending, stablecoins, foreign exchange functions, permissioned domains for regulatory-compliant transactions and improved privacy. He added that Ripple and the XRPL ecosystem are expanding real-world use by increasing inflows of institutions and users, saying building useful infrastructure is 10,000 times better than relying on baseless speculation.
Similar reactions emerged in the community. Sharusan, a member of the XRP community, argued that XRP's long-term success does not depend on whether it integrates with SWIFT. Ecosystem innovation such as XRPL-based AI agents and lending protocols supports XRP's long-term outlook, the assessment said.
Earlier, claims spread on social media that SWIFT would support public digital assets such as XRP instead of developing its own cryptocurrency. Zschach drew a line on this, saying, "No chance," and the controversy grew. The speculation spread based on a so-called "internal document" stating SWIFT would support existing digital assets, but no official document or announcement backing it has been confirmed.
The episode is seen as another case of drawing a line under recurring XRP link rumours that resurface whenever there are moves by SWIFT related to blockchain and digital assets. To date, SWIFT and Ripple have not announced any cooperative relationship involving XRP. Instead, Ripple executives have stated they will build payment infrastructure that could replace the SWIFT system. Within the XRPL community, calls are growing to prove the ecosystem's value through actual product development and wider adoption rather than relying on the possibility of links with external institutions.
SWIFT is not using XRP. I suggest blocking all XRP influencers running around lying to you they are using XRP right now or tell you with certainty they will. Free yourself, get lean. Same story with the DTCC news weeks ago. It looks incredibly desperate, luckily its only a…
