DK Techin, Kakao's IT solution development unit, is converting its collaboration tool KakaoWork into an AI platform.
DK Techin unveiled KakaoWork 2.0 on July 14, applying AI agent functions and a new infrastructure structure.
KakaoWork 2.0 applies a workplace AI agent called Work AI. In the chat window, it can correct spelling and tone in messages and summarise unread conversations and mentions or search past conversations. It also offers multilingual translation and a function to search text within images.
In a side panel on the right of the messenger screen, users can search work history based on conversation context and ask questions about uploaded files. It also supports an AI grouping function that automatically classifies chat rooms by their nature.
It also added a Knowledge Search AI that can search internal rules and manuals. When an administrator registers related documents, users can ask questions in natural language and receive answers on matters such as annual leave applications or corporate card usage rules. The company said the AI functions run on an internal network to reduce the risk of corporate information leaking outside.
It replaced the service engine with one based on Electron and Rust. According to DK Techin, GPU occupancy in standby fell 96 percent and memory usage dropped 50 percent. App launch speed became 4 times faster than before.
It also revamped the user environment. It supports Markdown formatting, channels and threads, and a channel preview function, and introduced a notification centre that lets users separately check key mentions and alerts.
Kang Hyun-jin (강현진), leader of DK Techin's business strategy group, said it was designed to let practitioners conveniently and quickly focus on work by combining high-performance infrastructure and advanced AI technology. He said the company would lead AI transformation and smart work culture for companies and organisations.
