Moonbeam is shifting its focus from a Polkadot parachain to Ethereum layer-2 Base and is pursuing an AI agent communication and settlement network called the Moonbeam Protocol.
Cointelegraph reported on Saturday that Moonbeam told GLMR holders to bridge their tokens to Base by July 31, 2026.
Moonbeam said the new protocol will build a structure in which autonomous AI agents find each other on-chain, negotiate work and exchange payments without intermediaries. It did not disclose when it will launch the Moonbeam Protocol.
GLMR holders must move tokens on the Moonbeam Polkadot parachain to Base by the deadline. GLMR locked in lending markets, staking contracts and other DeFi protocols is also included. Tokens held on centralized exchanges require no separate action.
Moonbeam said it sees on-chain coordination centered on AI agents as a long-term opportunity and will focus its resources on the shift. It said it will continue operating the cross-chain interoperability services it provided on the Polkadot parachain during the transition and will keep supporting existing developers and infrastructure providers.
