Zcash is reviewing the possibility of postponing the 'Ironwood' network upgrade scheduled for late July.

Cointelegraph reported on July 3 that exchanges, mining pools and wallet operators are worried they may not have enough time to prepare for the software transition and upgrade.

Jason McGee (제이슨 맥기) of Shielded Labs said on the Zcash community forum that Ironwood and the move to the Z3 stack are taking place at the same time. Participants in the Zcash ecosystem must replace the existing node and wallet software, zcashd, with the Z3 stack.

The Z3 stack consists of Zebra for network nodes, Zaino as a blockchain data provider tool for applications, and Zallet for wallet functions. An official guide says there is no direct alternative for some zcashd functions, meaning operators may need to modify their own systems.

Ironwood was proposed after the 'Infinity' bug was found in Orchard, Zcash's main private transaction pool. The flaw could, in theory, have allowed an attacker to create unlimited counterfeit ZEC within Orchard. Developers said there was no evidence of exploitation, but explained that Orchard's privacy features also meant they could not prove that no fake coins were created.

Ironwood is designed to open a new private pool and block new activity in the existing Orchard pool. Funds leaving Orchard will go through an accounting audit process, preventing more ZEC from leaving than was originally deposited. Users can use this to check whether Zcash's circulating supply is within the designed limit.
