The inconvenience of searching for an empty space in airport car parks is expected to ease. Tmap Mobility said on Sunday it has launched a "real-time vacant parking space location guidance service" for the first time at domestic airports with Korea Airports Corp. It is currently available at Gimhae International Airport and Cheongju International Airport.
After entering an airport car park, the navigation screen shows the actual car park layout and the location of vacant parking spaces in real time without any additional user action. It also provides the number of spaces available by car park. In addition to general spaces, it distinguishes spaces for disabled drivers, eco-friendly vehicles and compact cars by color so users can check remaining spaces.
Tmap Mobility linked real-time vacant parking space location data opened by Korea Airports Corp with its navigation service. The data are generated based on parking information collected using equipment including CCTV, ultrasonic sensors and LiDAR that detects spaces in three dimensions.
The service is currently available at Gimhae International Airport and Cheongju International Airport. It applies to the P1 and P2 outdoor car parks at Gimhae International Airport and the P2 outdoor car park at Cheongju International Airport. Tmap Mobility plans to expand cooperation with Korea Airports Corp to increase the number of airports and car parks covered and extend the service to public facilities and large buildings outside airports.
Kim Sung-gyu (김성규), core platform leader at Tmap Mobility, said the company developed the service with Korea Airports Corp to address parking, which airport users cite as one of the biggest inconveniences before departure. He said the company will continue to introduce services that save customers time throughout the entire journey and innovate the travel experience by using real-time traffic and parking data.
