South Korea's Broadcasting Media Telecommunications Committee said on Wednesday it will take part in the 2026 Korea International Streaming Festival in Busan with the Korea Communications Agency (KCA) and the Korea Radio Promotion Association (RAPA). It said it will run a special programme to support investment for domestic broadcast content and its overseas expansion.

The event is co-hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the city of Busan. It runs from Wednesday through June 21 around the Busan Cinema Center and Paradise Hotel to support overseas expansion by domestic over-the-top (OTT) and free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) industries, as well as media and content companies, and to expand global cooperation.

The committee said it is taking part in the event after it signed a business agreement in the OTT and FAST sector at a vice minister-level digital and media policy consultative meeting on June 10 with the Ministry of Science and ICT.

The committee said it will support investment for production support projects and broaden the foundation for overseas expansion through participation in a special session of the international streaming summit, hosting screenings and an investment attraction showcase, presenting an award segment at a global OTT awards ceremony, and operating a promotional booth.

A special session at the International Streaming Summit, held as an opening event on Wednesday, will introduce OTT trends by country in the United States, Europe and Asia and present tailored market entry strategies.

An exhibition screening of selected production support projects will be held on Wednesday afternoon at the Busan Cinema Center. It will screen the drama series "Taxi Driver 3," a production support project for AI and digital-based broadcast programmes last year. A talk with the audience will also be held with director Kang Bo-seung (강보승) and actors Kim Eui-sung (김의성), Pyo Ye-jin (표예진) and Bae Yoo-ram (배유람).

A closed-door investment attraction showcase for domestic and foreign OTT and FAST investors will be held at Paradise Hotel on June 20. It will introduce this year's committee-supported projects, "Rookie Director Kim Yeon-kyung Season 2" and "A Real Man's Travel Method Season 2." It will share examples of artistic merit and AI technology use and explore possibilities for overseas distribution and investment linkage.

At the global OTT awards ceremony, it will take part in presenting the Best Short-form award to discover creative short-form content using AI technology and publicise the achievements of outstanding creators at home and abroad.

Park Dong-joo (박동주), the committee's secretary-general, said in an opening ceremony congratulatory address that in the recent global media environment, combining strong content with competitive platforms is more important than anything else. He said it will actively support platforms and the content industry to strengthen competitiveness and grow together through close cooperation among related ministries and the industry.
