SK Telecom will hold a relay seminar series introducing the technological foundation for its proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) foundation model.

SKT said on June 18 it held the first seminar on June 17 at its headquarters in Euljiro, Seoul, inviting Seo In-seok (서인석), a professor in the Department of Mathematical Sciences at Seoul National University, under the theme "Mathematical AI: The difference between plausibility and correctness."

The event was arranged to share prior research and technology trends referenced by SKT's elite team taking part in the government's proprietary AI foundation model project during the model development process. Seo explained, from a mathematician's perspective, how AI handles math problems and the principles by which large language models (LLMs) learn mathematics.

The seminar series will be held three times under the theme "How does AI think and act, and evolve into an industrial system?" Each lecture is linked to the reasoning, multimodal and industrial expansion capabilities of "A-dot X (A.X) K2" being developed by SKT's elite team.

On June 23, Yu Young-jae (유영재), a professor in Seoul National University's Department of Computer Science and Engineering, will present on AI reasoning methods. On July 1, Yoon Sung-ro (윤성로), a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, will present on the AI model ecosystem. The seminar will also be broadcast live online. Viewers can apply to watch the online broadcast on A-dot X LinkedIn.

SKT's elite team plans to pursue industry-academia cooperation at the consortium level so that A.X K2 secures performance suited to agent functions such as solving math problems and coding, and to industrial expansion.

Kim Tae-yoon (김태윤), who is in charge of foundation models at SKT, said, "The purpose of the seminar is to convey in an easy way the technical background contained in model training, so that anyone can understand and empathise with what capabilities a proprietary foundation model must have."
