Google on May 19 updated the Gemini app at its annual I/O developer conference, adding the "Daily Brief" feature, a new interface and the AI video generation model "Gemini Omni".
According to TechCrunch, Daily Brief is a personalised summary feature users check each morning. It pulls together a user's inbox, calendar and key to-do items in one view. Beyond simple summaries, it prioritises tasks and suggests next steps, placing the most important items at the top. Daily Brief will be available from May 19 to Google AI subscribers in the United States.
Google stressed that it redesigned the Gemini app from scratch for the update. It applied a new design called Neural Expressive, notably enhancing animations, colours, fonts and haptic feedback.
TechCrunch reported that the app also moves away from the typical AI chatbot approach of dumping text all at once. Key information is shown in bold at the top, and additional text, images and timelines appear as users scroll.
The new AI video generation model Gemini Omni combines Gemini with Google's generative media models to support knowledge-based outputs. For example, users can generate a video with a simple prompt such as "Explain protein folding with clay animation".
