The KOSPI rose into the 7,900 range on May 14, supported by buying from retail investors, and ended higher. It was the highest close on record.

The KOSPI finished at 7,981.41, up 137.40 points, or 1.75 percent, from the previous day, putting the 8,000 level within reach.

The index opened at 7,873.91, up 29.90 points, or 0.38 percent, from the previous session, and climbed as high as 7,991.04 during the day.

The Kosdaq index was 1,191.09, up 14.16 points, or 1.20 percent, from the previous day.
