[DigitalToday reporter Jin-ho Lee] KT is checking network conditions at major outing destinations nationwide ahead of May's Family Month period and holidays.

KT said on April 30 it plans to check communications quality in preparation for increased traffic during the holidays and also review the operating status of customer protection services so families can spend the break with peace of mind.

KT carried out call-quality optimisation and wireless network checks at about 500 locations expected to see more visitors during the holidays, including the National Museum of Korea, amusement parks, parks and recreational forests. At places where large crowds gather, such as regional festival venues, it will adjust nearby base station capacity in advance and prepare to deploy mobile base stations on site if needed.

During the holidays, it will operate a 24-hour special monitoring system centred on the Gwacheon network control centre. It will monitor in real time any nationwide traffic increases or disruptions. If abnormal signs occur, it will move into an emergency response system that can take immediate action.

It will also operate its location confirmation service in a stable manner. KT explained that based on its precision positioning technology, EL SAR, it can identify location information more accurately in emergencies even in crowded places or urban indoor spaces.

It will also continue efforts to prevent damage from voice phishing and illegal spam targeting the holidays. Through its self-developed AI Clean Messaging System (AI CMS), it will proactively block illegal spam to prevent customer harm.

Jeong Seon-il (정선일), an executive director at KT's Network Operations Innovation Division, said the company will continue to check the status of its communications network during the holidays to minimise customer inconvenience.
