Bitcoin (BTC) manager Strategy bought an additional 13,927 BTC for about $1 billion from April 6 to 12, local time.
The Block Crypto reported on the 13th that Strategy's average purchase price this time was $71,902 per bitcoin. An 8-K filing submitted to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) shows it is the fourth-largest weekly purchase this year.
The purchase raised Strategy's bitcoin holdings to 780,897 BTC. Chairman Michael Saylor (마이클 세일러) said the average purchase price for total holdings was $75,577 per bitcoin and cumulative purchases, including fees and expenses, total about $59 billion. The current value of the holdings is about $55.4 billion.
Strategy's total holdings exceed 3.7 percent of bitcoin's total supply of 21 million. Based on the current price, unrealised losses amount to about $3.6 billion. Strategy also bought 4,871 BTC in the previous week for about $330 million.
The purchase was funded through STRC perpetual preferred shares issued via an at-the-market (ATM) offering. Strategy secured about $1 billion last week by selling 10,028,363 STRC shares. As of the 12th, additional issuance and sales worth about $21.6 billion are possible under the STRC programme. It did not sell Class A common shares MSTR during the same period, and $27.1 billion remains under that programme.
Strategy also runs separate at-the-market offering programmes for STRK, STRC, STRF and STRD preferred shares. These programmes are operated separately from the "42/42" plan to raise a total of $84 billion through stock and convertible bonds by 2027 to buy bitcoin. Last month, it expanded its fundraising limit by adding $21 billion of MSTR, $21 billion of STRC and $2.1 billion of STRK.
Ahead of the purchase announcement, Saylor posted a bitcoin purchase-tracking screen on X, formerly Twitter, and wrote, "Draw the bigger picture." He also said over the weekend, "Our BTC breakeven annual yield is about 2.05 percent," adding, "If bitcoin grows faster over time than it is now, we can pay dividends indefinitely without issuing new MSTR."
Concerns are also continuing over Strategy's market capitalisation-to-net asset value and its series of bitcoin purchase programmes. Based on Bitcoin Treasuries tallies, 195 listed companies have adopted the bitcoin purchase model, and Strategy's mNAV is about 0.84. TD Cowen lowered Strategy's target price by 20 percent to $350 on the 11th. It said digital-asset treasury companies have a business model that adds value to investors and the underlying digital asset ecosystem, and it assessed the sector is likely to continue.
Saylor recently mentioned at a Mizuho investor event that bitcoin's low may have formed around $60,000. On quantum-computing risks, he drew attention by saying it is a theoretical issue and can be resolved over time.
