Polymarket betting and odds information was found appearing alongside regular articles on some Google News screens. On April 10, IT outlet Engadget reported that the display appeared mainly in the personalised recommendation area called "For you". In some searches, a Polymarket link was placed ahead of actual news articles.
When users searched for the bitcoin price, there were cases in which a Polymarket betting item was shown at the very top of news results. The links appeared as a large card-style block leading to multiple betting pages.
The display was not limited to the recommendation area. Polymarket links were also found in search results. Queries about the Strait of Hormuz included a link to bets on the number of ships that would pass through the strait. Some users could set Polymarket as a source, in which case it led to an aggregation page collecting other Polymarket links.
It is unclear whether the display is still being maintained in the same way. Engadget said it could not reproduce most cases directly. It also mentioned the possibility that Google may have made some internal adjustments after the initial report.
Google announced a partnership with Polymarket and Kalshi in November last year. At the time, it said it would supply prediction data from the two platforms to Google Finance, but did not explain whether it would be reflected in the news area. Google did not respond to a query on whether the display of Polymarket bets would continue.
The case showed that prediction market data could move beyond financial information into news distribution screens. It also showed that Google's recommendation and search systems could treat rapidly updated betting pages as information similar to news articles.
